Kimberli's Creations Halloween Blog Hop!

Good morning and welcome to our Halloween blog hop! We have several talented ladies who will be sharing fun Halloween projects with you today, to hopefully inspire you to create some Halloween crafts of your own! If you just happened upon my blog, please go to Kimberli's blog to start from the beginning, so you don't miss anything! There will be some fun giveaways along the way, so be sure to hop by each of the blogs so you don't miss any!

I've created a few projects for this hop. I wanted to stray away from my typical simple layout and card. I ended up making a banner, a "candle" (originally planned a lantern but plans changed!) and I altered a frame.

First up is my Halloween Banner. I used pumpkin paper from the DCWV Autumn Amber stack. The black and white polka dots is also DCWV but that was loose paper purchased from Joann's. The font is from the Happy Hauntings Cricut cartridge set at 2.5in. The base is from Elegant Edges. I used my Gypsy for all of this and the height of the shapes is 4in and 4.65in. I was having a lot of trouble deciding how to string the banner together until I saw this sheer ribbon at Joann's! I love the polka dot paper so this was perfect!

Next is my "candle". I've been seeing lanterns made with the Cricut and wanted to try it. It didn't work so well and I think my issue was that I was trying to make it small. So instead of a lantern, I changed it to a candle! I used the same "base" from my banner. I took about a 1in thick piece of vellum and scored it in half and then trimmed it so I could make a circle and glued that to the base. Then my candle is simply a sheet of vellum with a spider web frame layered over it. This cut is also found on Happy Hauntings. I started out with 2 frames, welded them together and adjusted the width to 9 inches. After that, I unlinked the height and width and changed the height to 4.5inches. I used a stamp from the dollar bin at Michael's and embossed with an iridescent powder. I glued the ends together and placed it over my base. I have a battery powered candle inside of it.

And finally, my last project was a frame. I took an old wood frame from Ikea and glued the DCWV polka dot paper to it and trimmed off the excess. I stamped and embossed the spider webs and spider on the same paper and layered it over the frame. I used a stamp from the same set and stamped and embossed Happy halloween, added some of the ribbon and then attached it to the frame. Its not perfect but not too bad for a first attempt. The only issue I had was that the white ink seems to smudge even once its embossed. I use Color Box ink and don't have this issue with my other colors. However, they are old and the white is brand new. Maybe something has changed?

And because you made it through my very long post, I'm giving away a little something. When shopping for supplies, I picked up 2 mat stacks and 2 stamp sets and the extras could be yours! :) Just leave a comment and a way to contact you and I'll draw a winner on Monday, Oct. 31. (U.S. Residents only. Sorry!) Also, if you have an awesome white ink for embossing, please share what it is! I definitely need a new one!

Love how the banner is on the web. Did you hollow out the candle or did you get the battery operated one in that configuration?

Great projects Tracy! I love that banner on the web. Your candle is really awesome - definitely want to try that - technique could be used for Christmas too :) Love your frame. I wish I could tell you about a fabulous white ink, but unfortunately, I only have the Color Box one too and although I have not tried it for embossing, it does seem to take forever to dry and mine is old :( I am a new follower of your cute blog!

Tracy, all three projects are superb. You made a spooky pattern and font look so elegant, but without losing the spooky...LOL. So very happy to have hopped in and became a new follower. I don't do much embossing, so I can't suggest anything that might work better. I will try to peek around and if I see a suggestion, I will pop back in and share it!!! On a side note, I see your blog is only a few months old...welcome to BlogLand.
